Oh, what a RELIEF... PRINT!

Our Falcon Artists have been enjoying a printmaking unit with special thanks to funding through Donor's Choose. Students love the process of printmaking from the sketching process, carving their designs and the final printing with inks and the ability to leave with multiple images!

Students created sketches of animals with a background environment. Students needed to include a sense of texture created with line, a strong sense of contrast with areas of black and white areas in the final image. Students are able to
transfer their final drawings directly to the E-Z Cut printing surface.
Safety is a huge part of the printmaking unit and students have repeated discussions of proper ways to use carving tools and maintain safe studio procedures.

The studio becomes alive when the inking stations are set up and students begin rotating through the printing process. I require students to proof their images to reflect on the design and decide if they want to rework the print by carving additional elements. Once students are pleased with the over all print proof quality they print a small edition of prints using black ink. Students get to experiment with a rainbow blend of colors or single color prints.
The magic of the rainbow roll fills the room with excitement and I love hearing the oohs and ahhs when we pull a print!

Students complete the printing unit by learning to properly label their prints and upload into their digital portfolio on Artsonia.
We are thankful to our anonymous donors who helped us be able to fun our printmaking unit and gave our students the chance to make quite an impression!
