Skyline Middle School proudly hosted our third annual A.R.T. Day in celebration of Youth Art Month and World Read Aloud Day. A.R.T. Day (World Read Aloud Day), is celebrated this year on Wednesday February 24, 2016. The event took over the central part of the school with a day long read-a-thon. Special guests came to read to classes gathered continually from 9am- 3pm.
Research has shown that reading aloud to older children is an essential part of their path to literacy, and quite frankly, it is a joy to read to Skyline students because they love it. We can provided a selection of picture books or guests brought a reading selection that they love. Each reading slot was 15 minutes. The Art Department has joined forces with our amazing Librarian Sandra Parks to start a tradition that also celebrates March as National Youth Art Month. Last year started the tradition and photos of the event can be seen on my previous blog post: http://capitolofcreativity.weebly.com/art-lair/art-art-read-think
