Every year on the first Wednesday of March, World Read Aloud Day calls global attention to the importance of reading aloud and sharing stories. Along with Ms. Parks our librarian we decided to connect the observance with Youth Art Month to share the power of words and art.
Teachers and staff gathered in the main hallway of our school to read art books to students constantly from 8:15 am until 3:00 pm. Books were read, imagination soared, and voices were heard.
WRAD 2014 was celebrated by millions of people in all 50 states and over 75 countries. Thanks to the dozen staff members that came to share their voice in sharing art, reading, and time to think with our students. Thank you also to the teachers for bringing their classes who listened to stories and opened their imaginations.
